The Roving Controller

Bio

I was born and raised in Cottage Grove until the age of eleven when my family moved to Klamath Falls. Upon graduation from Klamath Union High School I joined the U.S. Navy and served in Vietnam. When my tour of duty was over I took advantage of an opportunity to purchase and operate a charter fishing boat out of Depoe Bay. This venture evolved into commercial fishing and further into seafood processing and sales. As the business grew so did the need for control. In 1986 I purchased my first personal computer and Horizon Accounting. I became a beta tester for their Order Inventory module in 1988 as I developed a process for tracking fresh seafood through the varied processes of smoking, canning, vaccuum packaging and freezing. In 1993 I wrote a business plan and successfully negotiated the sale of my seafood business. A consulting opportunity with a non-profit organization led me to Southern California. When finished I stayed to take advantage of an opportunity to train and consult with a company specializing in MAS90 accounting software. I was subsequently offered a position with an electronics manufacturing company as Controller. When this company changed hands a year later I was ready to move back to Oregon. However a friend who owned a construction company asked me to help him organize his job cost accounting processes and a temporary position lasted five years. Finally in 2002 I moved to Springfield and took a position as Controller with a local construction company where I remain as part owner.
